Chamber Recruits New Employees to Area
The Grand Junction Area CO Chamber's Workforce Committee in collaboration with their county Workforce Center is preparing materials for several out-of-state job fairs. The committee will also be preparing a brief two minute slide show of the area which will be available to any local employer who is doing out-of-state recruitment. diane@gjchamber.org

 


Chamber Develops Micro Loan Program
The Sacramento CA Hispanic Chamber is rolling out a comprehensive Micro Loan Program for their members.  The Micro Loan Program is available to all members with loans ranging from $5,000 to $35,000 at 9.5%, with a payback period up to 72 months.

Chamber Awards $14,000 in Scholarships
The Tucson AZ Metropolitan Chamber in conjunction with the Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment awarded six scholarships with a combined value of more than $14,000 to six Pima County high school seniors.  Applicants must have met minimum qualifications of a 2.5 grade point average, have established positive citizenship in school, and plan to live in work in the Tucson area after college. jcamper@tucsonchamber.org

Chamber Plans Workshops to Assist Businesses
In cooperation with SCORE, the Corona CA Chamber is launching a series of workshops to assist Corona businesses in prospering through the current economic climate.  The workshops will concentrate on teaching principles and skills to help companies generate sufficient business or maintain growth.  bobby@coronachamber.org

 


Algebra in the Real World
In the five years since California made a algebra a high school graduation requirement, more English-language learners than ever in Sonoma County are talking the course earlier in their academic careers. To bridge the achievement gap, the Sonoma County Office of Education and the Santa Rosa Chamber have launched a pilot program that pairs incoming freshmen with local engineers who can help students better grasp algebraic concepts.  The chamber contributed about $18,000 to the program and participating companies donated staff time, space, supplies and meals for the students.

Chamber Releases Public Employees Salary Reports 
The Las Vegas NV Chamber has released two reports in a series of in-depth studies outlining government spending in Nevada. The reports outlined where taxpayer dollars are currently being spent and provides the chamber with factual information so it can make informed public policy recommendations.  The first report focuses on the disparity between pay in the private and public sector.  The second report compares Nevada's public employees' salaries to the national average.  Both reports can be viewed at: www.lvchamber.com
